AmazonWireless in Full Swing

With the recent launch of AmazonWireless, Amazon’s phone department is sure to see an increase in sales. AmazonWireless is currently offering cellular equipment and service plans through Verizon and AT&T. Over the course of this transition, additional carriers will be an option, although no timetable has been set.

AmazonWireless has over 120 phones on the market and that number should undoubtedly increase when other wireless carriers become available. Some of the best selling phones include the Samsung Eternity a867, Blackberry Curve 8900, LG Xenon GR500 Phone, Samsung Rugby a837, Samsung Impression a877 and Blackberry Bold 9000.

An incentive to purchase an AT&T device would be that there are no activation fees on upgrades and new two-year contracts. If interested in Verizon devices, the Storm is available and includes 3.2 MP, GPS and Touchscreen.

Mail-In-Rebates No More

In an effort to satisfy customers and maximize their experience with AmazonWireless, the company has instituted the elimination of mail-in-rebates. Instead, customer’s will receive instant rebates with their purchase. This gesture will enable the customer to receive their money back right away and minimize the necessary paperwork.

AmazonWireless is offering free two-day shipping on any phone purchase. Efforts are being made to improve the site’s shopping cart to make the purchase as effortless as possible.

Acording to the Star News, Verizon Wireless is taking part in the national Cell Phone Recycling Week this week (April 6-12) by asking individuals to donate no-longer used cell phones, accessories and batteries to a program called HopeLine through their retail outlets. The items can be from any long distance service and not just from Verizon. HopeLine is a charitable organization that strives to make a difference for the community by specifically curbing domestic violence.

Environment and Community

Proceeds from the recycled items will be used for domestic violence shelters and for nonprofit organizations focused on domestic violence. Through programs like HopeLine, landfills see less battery waste and electronic waste thus also making a difference for the environment. With a complete ban of electronic equipment at the jail and a limited number of lockers available to store valuables outside the prison, some creative vendors and small business owners are providing storage for a small fee.

A doughnut shop owner is Queens is holding valuables for tourists for a price. Also a newsstand owner in Lower Manhattan is providing a place for tourist to keep cell phones, cameras, beepers and other equipment until they have completed the tour of the island. And then there’s Robert Williams who is known as Bobby the Phone Man. Sitting next to the full lockers with a megaphone, brown sacks, and markers, he’ll keep your phone and other devices for $3. On a normal day he holds bags for 20 different tourists.
